James Cranfield's leadership style

I would categorize James Cranfield's leadership style with transactional leadership as he is very focused on all the roles of a manager such as group performance, organization and supervision. It is a kind of leadership style that is based on promotion of compliance of his or her followers with the help of both punishments and rewards. James Cranfield has always been found managing things in the similar way without having major changes and this thing is very much related to the qualities of transactional leadership as these leaders are not found looking for change in future perspectives. Leaders like Cranfield have friendly nature and they want to keep followers linked to the overall organizational objectives. Cranfield is found taking care of his employees and keeping them motivated so that they can perform their duties and responsibilities in an effective way. He is a sincere leader, who always takes informed decisions. Transactional leaders pay close attention to the work of their followers, so that he or she could highlight the deviations and faults in time (Goleman, 2004). Although this has become an old leadership style but still effectively used in most of the world's well known organizations. Transactional leadership style is effective in emergency and crisis situation and it also facilitates in those situations in which projects are required to be carried out in a particular way. Same is the case with Mr. Cranfield, he is found pointing out mistakes of the employees and making the do their work in an effective way. He is an individual who knows very well when to proceed as he is mindful and experienced. He is having effective relationships with all the employees and clients. Some of the qualities of Cranfield are linked to transformational leadership, as he is found at certain places using motivation as a tool in bringing out the required performance from his employees. In whole this article it was found that he has been quite fair with all his employees as always evaluated his employees on the basis of merit and performance.

Although there were situations in which he was found impatient, as he always tired his level best to streamline a quality process or conversation that can help others in doing their jobs in an effective way. Cranfield holds qualities of a good communicator and a true mentor. It is necessary for the leaders to understand the difference between leadership and management as these are two vast fields having different accountabilities and responsibilities (Crowder, 2012).
