Introduction

The intentionally planned effort to increase the viability and relevance of any organization is known as Organizational Development (OD). Organizational development is concerned with the performance of the company and its employees and makes endeavors to improve it. Every organization is and shall be considered as a coherent system which is composed of various departments or parts. As a process, organization development includes achievements and methodologies in organizational design, development of leadership, coaching, strategic planning and diversification between life and work (Deru, Kozubal & Norton 2010, pp. 27-56).

The need for organization development interventions has increased more than ever in present day's competitive business world; because OD intervention aim to enhance the performance at individual, group and organizational levels. The OD intervention encourage and stress on mutual respect, trust and support atmosphere at workplace, power sharing, open confrontation of problems and increased participation of stakeholders. The OD interventions usually affect the whole organization and its process, as it covers broader scope (Brown, 2010, pp. 118-129). In relation to the phenomenon of organizational development intervention, this paper is going to examine organizational developmental issues, of Walmart Stores Inc and will propose recommendations for the company to overcome these issues.

Reflection of the Book

The book helps us to understand and identify major OD intervention techniques and how they can be applied in real world situation. The book also helps in development of understanding how different interpersonal, team and intergroup techniques fit into OD program. The book also helps us to understand change strategies.

Organizational Change

Mostly, organizational changes are introduced and incorporated in the organizational process to enhance the efficiency of the organization. Organizational change usually aims to increase the productivity and performance of employee which ultimately improve the product quality and increase customer satisfaction through service delivery. Development of change strategy includes the planned actions aim to remove the difficulties and problems in the work process, and increase the organization's effectiveness (Brown, 2010, pp. 176-191). Change strategy leads to organizational development, which foster the use of OD interventions in technology and techniques.

Intervention Strategies

Intervention strategies refer to the specific programs, activities and means through which the goals of change strategy can be attained. Effective OD intervention requires structural, behavioral and technological changes (Brown, 2010, pp. 176-191).

Structural Changes

Structural changes attempt to change the line of authority, span of control and work function arrangement.

Technological Changes

The implementation of new technologies in an organization such as updating of computer systems, machinery, automation and others are referred as technological changes.
