Introduction

My first semester at the university has made me a professional student. It has helped me in managing my time effectively, learning study strategies, listening lectures actively, active learning, for example, writing action plans on things I need to do, keeping a reflective study journal on how well I learn and how to improve on my study skills and writing things down to clarify my thoughts, work out strategies, and focus on my development and progress on my course in a holistic approach. It has been hectic, but my motivation is my overall achievement in terms of skills I will acquire at the end of my studies.

I have reflected on setting my priorities in time management skills i.e. the way I spend my time fulfilling family responsibilities, doing course work, meeting deadlines, and setting out time to study. Maintaining a balance between work and family is very important for a person's peaceful life (Little, Et. Al, 2006, pp. 50). I had a timetable previously which helped me in enhancing my time management skills, but due to some unpredictable things I was not able to follow the timetable. Now I have made a more realistic timetable that will help me in taking out time for studies, as well as, other activities. According to my time table I will study thirty four hours a week i.e. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. I will go to university for lectures on Thursdays and Fridays, and will spend the rest of the two days, Tuesdays and Saturdays fulfilling my family responsibilities and sorting out other affairs. Usually, I work for long hours with few breaks which makes me tired and I lose the ability to think clearly. This makes me bored and loose interest easily. When I reflected back, as to why I was unable to perform I found out that no taking breaks was causing problem; therefore, now I have started taking a break between studies.

Getting feedback from tutors has made me improve the way I write my course work. I try not to be oversensitive to their remarks, even though I feel disappointed that the effort I put, does not reflect in the marks I get. After they give me remarks and comments, I make an action plan by writing out areas due to which I lost. After identifying my weak areas I work on them and the next time when I make an assignment, I make sure that I take care that I do not commit the same mistakes again.

The advice and guidance session helps me to do my course work well and understand in a better way. Attending sessions regularly helps me, and I get to know more about the topic. I have learned that reading out loud helps in spotting mistakes which I need to correct. I use this skill when proof reading my work, so that I get a better grade in the second work course that I submit.
