It is a process that helps individuals to appreciate factors that motivates them so they are able to achieve their benchmark and full potential. Development is very essential in everybody's life as without change and adoptability life would become difficult and dull. Everyone possesses set of their own values, beliefs and personal traits. They play an essential role in delivering your personality and show who you are. Belief and how things are perceived play an important role in professional life as well (Greene & Dunn, 2004, pp. 18). Characteristics for example whether a person is shy, anti-social, jolly or reserved, definitely determine the behaviour an individual will have at work. Several factors influence an individual's values and beliefs, although the level of influence caused by these factors differs depending on the individual.

Factors that influence beliefs and values

There are various factors that can influence an individual's beliefs and values for example, culture, traditions, religious beliefs, family upbringing, environment and education etc. In reference to someone's beliefs and personal traits, in a health care or social care centre, they are considered to play an essential part during the interaction between the consumer of service and its provider (Nolan, 2005, pp. 11). For example if the provider of the service is very persuasive with a good educational back ground and so while rendering services to the client, his professionalism and literate behaviour will be executed. His beliefs will definitely influence his behaviour towards the final consumer. With the passage of time an individual develops new beliefs and traits. During this transition personal values are considered to be the most influential source. They contribute the most in our personality as an individual is considered to be a representation of his or her beliefs and values.
