Introduction

The scenario of the paper is I (the author) am come back home a little earlier than expected to find a friend of my 16 year old son who it seems has broken in the door. Furthermore, the boy is in the kitchen with a number of jewelry from the home and a lock-pick placed on the counter next to him. The boy claims he was looking for a piece of paper to write a note to his friend who is my son, and smells of marijuana which means that he is drugged.

Personal Application of Criminology and its Causes

Since as early as the 18th Century, there have been many theories as to the possible causes of juvenile crime. Scientific, biological, environmental and economical factors have all been put forward as explanations. Modern theorists however, believe that one single factor is not likely to be the only answer; they favor the "multiple" factors theory. Multiple factors are a combination of influences that come into play together throughout the childhood of juveniles.

Friends

The friends that a child is exposed to are likely to be a big influence outside of the family. When juveniles get together, they can often provoke each other into committing criminal offences, for the sake of 'making them look big'. Studies have shown that 68% of youths committed offences with someone else.

Friends can also make things seem so much more fun and a laugh. 39% of youths commit crime for fun. Furthermore, 23% committed crimes because of boredom. Juveniles hanging around are often being moved on from one area to another. This leads to frustration and resentment, thus leading to crimes being committed.
