Counseling

Counseling is defined as direct work with people to address the social and psychological problems of the client, where the primary means of influence is built in a certain way conversation. the term "counseling" is used to describe a set of practices as diverse as those who are to guide, assist, advise, support and treatment. "Counseling is a form of" situations psychology ": the situation is the cause of the symptom and not the reverse. In this sense, counseling, a form of psychological and social support, means a situation in which two people enter into a relationship, one that explicitly call for the other by expressing a demand for treatment, resolve, assume or problems that affect them. The term "counseling" would be insufficient insofar as the scope of counseling, often refer to social realities themselves to producing only among individuals within a group of disorders or difficulties (Gillon, 2007). Counseling responds to that effect to the needs of people seeking help a person to resolve, within a relatively short time, problems that do not necessarily belong in their own pathology.

The Person-Centered Approach

The term person-centered approach? was first used by Carl Rogers in 1977. It is the current term used in favors of „client-centered therapy? and, before that, non directive therapy? and relationship therapy? - terms which reflect and in many ways represent the historical development of the approach.

From the point of view of the helper, the person-centered approach proposes a number of qualities or attitudes which help facilitate this constructive tendency. Putting the two together, the helper (health visitor, nurse, therapist, etc.) in the person-centered approach is essentially non-directive in that it proposes that the client knows best? even when they appear to be doing things which are self-limiting.

In any introduction to - and any training in - the person-centered approach it is therefore necessary to consider and develop this way of being through practicing the principles of the approach (rather than, say, to learn a set of skills which are artificially separated from the principles on which they are based). A way of being? is a psychological posture from which one lives and is in the world and is a phrase which encapsulates the person-centered approach. There are a number of elements to this way of being, entailing:

1. Belief in change and growth as natural processes.

2. Will to help.

3. Intention to be effective in helping people meets their needs.

4. Compassion for the individual and respect for his autonomy and dignity.

5. Flexibility in thought and action.

6. Openness to new discoveries: a learning posture.

7. Ability to listen closely and carefully to how people express their ...
