Introduction

Psychology has very strong relation with the personality. It is not possible to discuss any branch of psychology without personality. Personality reflects the psychological traits of an individual, which influence the interaction of an individual with the environment and people around him. Personality psychology is the branch of psychology which deals with the personality of an individual and the characteristics associated with him. These personality traits or characteristics are unique and specific for every individual. Every person has a set of these definite traits that defines the complete personality of individual (Chapman, 2011). These are the distinguishing characteristics of a person which identifies the key pattern of cognitive factors. It also identifies the different style of behavior, thinking, feelings, emotions and responses. It also affects the social interactions and lifestyle of an individual.

Personality is the most important factor in the field of psychology and assists in better understanding of the problems with an individual. Personality traits also assist in organizing and assessing the different patterns of life and affect the perception of the individuals. Personality traits depend on various factors, which provide the basic understanding of personality of an individual, this identifies it from others (Naydenova, et.al., 2012). It is also an important concern associated with the motivational factors and consistency associated with the human behavior. These also play a vital role in changing the personality of an individual. Interaction of an individual with its environment also plays a major role in identifying the pattern of social and psychological behavior and pattern of an individual personality.

Evolution of Personality Psychology

Understanding of the personality psychology is not a new concept, but it is one of the most primitive quests to search for the understanding of the human behavior and different aspects of his reactions, in groups and communities. With the development of society and the problem of the social context and interaction in society it resulted in the problem in understanding of the social behavior. This was one of the major concerns for the society to develop better interaction and social relation in the society which was not possible without understanding the behavior of individuals (Weiner, 2012). The only possible way to understand the psychological behavior of the individuals was to study the personality and behavior of those individuals.

There were various researchers and psychologists who identify these patterns of psychological traits for the better understandings of human psychology and human development. There are major developments in the study of psychology and the fields of psychology.
