John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) was the greatest British philosopher of the Nineteenth century. Mill, like his liberal predecessors, was opposed to unlimited political power, including democracy, because it poses a threat to individual liberty. It was generally convinced that democracy is the best form of government, and therefore, in particular, that the granting of voting rights for women workers and simple justice, and will enhance their intellectual culture.
