Project Review: The School as a Connected System

Introduction

Schools act as a natural center and may herald signs of decay in a community. As a countermeasure, local schools working with various community organizations, companies and organizations in an effort to mobilize the community to promote a cause. Those interested or involved in an effort to mobilize the community represent a specific segment of society. School board members, elected officials, neighborhood watch, advisory council members, the non-profit organizations and religious leaders act as representatives of stakeholders to promote a cause. Stakeholders collaborate with local school administration, police and government officials to collect data on the subject or problem in particular to assess if warranted a collaborative effort. Stakeholders evaluate the environment to determine if an existing partnership already exists to solve the problem. Senior members identify and involve all the actors involved, after determining the subject worthy of a collaborative effort (Hammack, 2004).

Connected System

The concept of a connected school is the association of all the members of the school and the stakeholders. The stakeholders represent and entail everyone who is affected with the performance and operation of the educational system in a community. The connectivity of a school may include an entire community. I happen to be associated with a school as an intern, the connect system I observed over there was widespread, as all the actors and member of the community were more or less connected with the school. The stakeholder of the school, where I was an intern, does not only include the teaching and administrative staff but also the board, parents and students (Schrum, Levin, 2010). These members represent the internal member or the stakeholders of the school. There is an inherent association between these members of an educational institution, as they are associated in one way or the other with the learning process. On the other hand, the school was also connected with external member of the community including professional leaders, organization, youth organizations and potential enrollments. Also, faith community, media, NGOs and other charity service organizations are connected with the school. All these internal and external members are significantly connected and associated with the school where I completed my internship program.

Communication Strategies

The goals, objectives and vision of my project are to strengthen the connectivity between schools and the community. As I have identified that there are a number of members of the society that are connected with the school, it is therefore important to communicate the benefits of association between schools and the stakeholders. These stakeholders represent the entire community and include all the members of the society. The idea is to encourage other school and communal members to establish bonds and relationships so that the learning processes may be improved and the students may be benefited from such connectivity. Following are certain strategies that I have identified to communicate the cause of this project and evaluate any feedback from the targeted stakeholders.
