Introduction of the Overall Idea

This paper might appear relatively different from other psychological papers in terms of the issues which are highlighted and argued in it. The overall idea of the paper is to generate an argument about the psychology of media, how it is operating and influencing the cognitional perceptual ability of every individual. The discussion is primarily done with respect to the new media technologies, which are emerging at a rapid pace, and the role of advertising in manipulating psychology.

Though media was present since 19th century, but the communication process as always one way, until the emergence of new media. The one way process was not that effective as media perceive all audience as homogenized and delivers a single message for the masses. Through new media, the two way communication becomes possible; now sender can also access the personal biography to the targeted audience and thus treat each individual with respect to its behavior. This development has made media communication drastically effective and thus created various opportunities to manipulate the psychology of the audience.

Thesis Statement

The rationale of this research in the highlight and understand the role of new media in manipulating the psychological framework of the people in the social realm. The upbringing of the new media has seriously spellbound the younger generations, which is primarily a concern for the expected psychological changes in the younger generations.

It is quite expected that in the next decade or so, people will go and watch televisions in the museums. The phenomenon of the extinction of the traditional media is increasing as the emergence of new media is happening rather rapidly. Global media industry and advertisers are now shifting their focus upon new media gadgets to impose their messages upon the target audience, to secure their future growth. The new media users across the globe are primarily teenagers, young adults and adolescents, who are bombarded with heap of adverting, more than any other age group, and they are primarily unaware of it (Kaufman, J. C, 2012).

New Media includes cell phones, social media, websites and blogs on the internet, video games, technological gadgets etc. Such products are primarily being catered to the modern generation. Advertisers on the other hand want to capture as much audience as possible. They are aware of the fact that traditional media i.e. Television, Radio, Newspaper etc. is of the least interest to the newer generations. Thus, shifting upon new media seems promising for potential growth. It is a fact that new media is a very powerful communicator; it is anywhere - everywhere. Why it is not yet recognized by the educators that a medium that can more effectively sell products than television or newspaper, can also more effectively enhance the learning experience of new generation.
