About Long Island City

Long Island City consists of 1,664 acres of area or 5oo square city blocks. In the South of Long Island City there is Newton Creek whereas, East River is situated in the western part of this place. On west side, there are Rail yards of Sunnyside. This yard also supposed to be the line of distinction or the line of separation between Long Island City Business District and Sunnyside. On the Northern side of the city there is Broadway Avenue at the northern edge of Astoria.

Redevelopment opportunities in Long Island

The planners of New York City consider Long Island City as the most attractive site and they think that it has potential to become the central hub of business. They think that this area can be developed into the center of the business. The rezoning of this place, well mapped out ideas for growth and development, increasing population and opportunities for jobs and strong cultural contribution and association of this place attracted a lot of investors to invest in this area for its planning and development. As this pattern of rejuvenating this piece of land has became common more and more industrialist and developers are buying buildings of old industries so that they can have opportunities to convert theses old buildings into lucrative business sites once this land is reestablished fully and completely.

Scalamaldre was a silk mill in this area and when the mill owner of this building decided to move to some other part one of the famous developers of Manhattan named as Time Equities bought this building. He is intended to renew a portion of it and he is willing to rent out rest of the portion to some other person interested in developing business there. He will use the converted part of the building for the residential use. Conversions of similar patterns have also been observed previously. Such as conversion of Lion Match factory, this factory that is constituted around 60,000 square foot of area had been converted into an office. Similarly, one another building that was a manufacturing building that is constituted around 130,000 square foot of area had been converted into an information technology educational institute.

All these above mentioned examples and others show that this is the area that has quite bright and attractive prospects that can attract other developers and government of New York to develop this area. But in my point of view, such few examples do not fully support the redevelopment of this project because for redeveloping such an area there should be substantial and noticeable development and rejuvenation rather than these one or two small scale conversions.
