Introduction

Rehabilitation is the process of restoring function after sustaining an injury and/or illness. The major goal of a rehabilitation program is to attain maximal independence in all activities of daily living (ADL), including independence in recreation and sports activity. In some cases, if this is not possible, the secondary goal is to achieve functional independence within the limits of the disability. The major principle of rehabilitation is safely enhancing the person's abilities, despite an existing or a developing impairment. This paper presents an organizational analysis of a rehabilitation centre. It presents an overview of the organization, along with its services offerings, and market it serves. The organization that has been selected for analysis in this paper is “The ReHabilitation Center”.

Organization Overview

The ReHabilitation Center, established as a multi-services organization in 1958 offer a wide range of services. Mainly established as a care and rehabilitation centre for disable children, it expanded its scope to provide rehabilitation and recreational services to disable people irrespective of their age (TRC, 2011a). It now offers an array of services programs including rehabilitation, day treatment, residential services, life skills, social recreation, and Medicaid services to help in the provision of best possible quality of life to those with special needs. It also has a 'Children learning center and autism services'. Including these services related to rehabilitation, this organization also provides training employment and opportunities for adults with disabilities under SubCon Industries division (TRC, 2010). Brief history of 'The ReHabilitation Center' is presented below.

Brief History

The ReHabilitation Center is multi-services offering organization incorporated in 1958, around four decades ago. An event that led the foundation basis for the establishment of The ReHabilitation Center is when parents met at Mrs. Victoria Reswick's home to converse about the disabilities of their children on October 2, 1957. Mrs. Reswick son also had James Guy Reswick had 'Down's Syndrome' (TRC, 2011a). Therefore, she wanted to form an association of parents who are willing to discuss the lack of options for their children. An ad was placed in Olean Times Herald paper to encourage group formation for starting advocating for children. This group lobbied the politicians and doctors to provide approval for the establishment of 'The ReHabilitation Center' as an incorporated organization.
