Introduction

Twelve proposed amendments to the U.S. constitution were transmitted by the Congress to the state Legislatures on 25th September 1789. Effective from 17th December 1791, ten amendments from number three to number twelve were accepted by the states and they become the Bill of Rights of the United Sates.

The U.S. Bill of Rights was proposed by James Madison. Central role is played by the U.S. Bill of Rights in the American government and law. The Bill of Rights is the culture of the U.S. nation and it is an elemental symbol of the freedoms (OH, 2012).

Most Relevant Amendment

The most relevant and most significant amendment, in my opinion in the U.S. Bill of Rights, is the First Amendment. This amendment covers the freedoms to the American citizen as they can attend any function of politics, religion, and games etc including any interpersonal interests (Glassner, 2012, pp.1).

I appreciate this first amendment because the enormity of this liberty. It is observed in various parts of the world that no such freedom is offered to its citizens. An example can be taken of Japan in which the people can attend only the churches which are approved by the government.

Furthermore, a priest started holy gatherings in his home. He was given a very strict permission and was placed behind the bars by the government. In the jail, two officials were placed to torture him, if he starts worshiping. This made me realize that the first amendment of Bill of Rights give me an immense opportunity to be free and can do whatever I want but within the law limits.

Significance of Bill of Rights

The United States government is established for the people and is created by the people and it will only be successful when the people have absolute rights. The significance of the U.S. Bill of Rights is because it sets out the rights of the citizens. The rights given to citizens of America by the constitution are written down in the form of Bill of Rights which commits of human dignity, equality and freedom.

The Bill of Rights expresses the core values of a country to the whole world on which it is established. These rights are the uniting mechanism for the citizens and for people who come to live there.
