Introduction

More than 59 people were killed in a suicide attack on an army recruitment centre in Baghdad on 16th August 2010. More than 100 people were reported in media to have been injured in the bombing.

Analysis of the Event

The attack came as the US was preparing to end its combat operations in Iraq by the end of August. It also came a day after the bloc that won the most seats in March's parliamentary election poised talks on creating a coalition government.
