Self-Assessment/Reflective Essay

In trying to write this essay, I decided to use the brainstorming strategy. Brainstorming is a group work tool that facilitates the emergence of new thoughts on an issue or problem (Beel, et al, 2009). Brainstorming is a group technique for generating original ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. I found this technique effective (Mumford, 2003). The success of brainstorming is highly dependent on the psychological atmosphere of discussion and activity, thus leading role in brainstorming is very important (Runco, et al., 2010). The inventor of the method of brainstorming is Alex Osborn, an employee of the advertising agency BBD & O. One of the extensions of the method of brainstorming is a method synectics (Williams, 2000). The general idea of the method is the harvest of many original ideas. Two principles define the brainstorming: the suspension of trial and research as widely as possible. Thus, the absurd and fanciful suggestions are accepted during the production phase and mutual stimulation. The next time that I am writing an essay, I will use the same technique, brainstorming. The difference will be that the group that I will involve for the brainstorming session next time will be bigger than the one used this time.

The purpose of writing this essay was mainly based on exploring the main ideas of related to the use of the brainstorming session. The objective was to practically experience the brainstorming session and to identify the fact that whether the use of a brainstorming session is of any use. My audience was my professor. My aim was to identify the benefits of using a brainstorming session and my audience, my professor, know the benefits of using a brainstorming session, after practically implementing it once. The main point of my essay was based on the individual experiences of everyone involved in the brainstorming session and the amount of gain that others were able to have by the sharing of each other's experiences. The thing that I wanted to achieve from this essay was that the audience should be able to know the benefits of the use of the brainstorming session and that the use of the brainstorming session should be increased by my audience.

While reviewing my peer's essay, the things that I was looking for in their essay were their thoughts on the use of the brainstorming session, and their experience of being a part of it. ...
