Strong Personal Skills

Personal skills is the most important quality in order to become an effective counseller. Customer experience associated with the experience that the counselor understands it gives the customer the power to expand their self-concept. Thus, empathic understanding means more than just “tuning” of the counselor in the world of the client but also encourages the client to further "investigation" of his inner world. Empathetic therapeutic response is quite specific in the technical sense.

Emotionally Stable

A counselor needs to be emotionally stable to handle critical situation of patients. I define emotional stability as the ability of the athlete has to be more accurate to himself (his emotions, feelings, motivations and changes in these states) and stay present address different events (or responsibilities) provided or unexpected that he will live. The ability to live and manage emotions is learned from childhood. While managing strong emotions or negative, learn to live them, counselor can boost immune system and cardiovascular system. In counselor patient relationship it has been also found that the stability of the relationship and success in making decisions rely heavily on the maturity and emotional stability of counselor (Bond, 1992).

Caring

Caring is the ability to put you in the shoes of the patient is an essential aspect of all therapeutic communication and underpins both facilitative and assertive communication. Every therapeutic setting involves the encounter of two human beings. In psycho-counseling, for example, there are clear structural features of this therapeutic relationship such as caring. The ability to feel compassion and caring can be based on the fact that our own neural systems spontaneously and mechanically reconstruct in us those feelings that we observe in others . When patients exhibit a rigid relational stance that is not responsive to change, counselors often must rely on confrontation. (Blocher, 2000).

Manifestation of These Qualities

It is to give the customer a clear understanding that the counselor understands it. This understanding can be expressed in a direct statement of the state of the client or metaphorical, but should be avoided trite maxims like: I understand you quite well. Important not so much the accuracy of understanding of the client itself but imagine how much interest to the world of the client by the counselor. Empathy is a process in which the counselor is getting closer and closer to the thoughts and feelings to the client. Accurate empathy is an ideal case.

Fostering A Relationship With Patients

Relationship between counselor and patient can be defined as a continuous process of interaction and communication that would create understanding, honesty, humility and mutual respect. Significance of this patient-counselor relationship is indispensable in counselor. This development of relationship with the patient helps out other members of the interdisciplinary team to gauge the right and correct response of patient towards the progress of medical treatment.
