Small Group Counseling Integrating Psychodynamic Approaches (Psychoanalytic and Adlerian)

Introduction

This assignment is based on the small group counseling which is based on the integrating psychodynamic approaches (psychoanalytic and Adlerian). I am the group counselor of Christian Counseling Class. In this class there are various patients who are facing the stress related issues and personal and development concerns. My group counseling is a therapeutic treatment of psychological nature that will be provided to patients to improve their mental health and quality of life. In addition, the group provides its members appropriate psychotherapeutic strategies for coping with the stressors and other mental disorders.

I perceive Group Counseling as an intervention for anyone who wants to pursue personal development to better understand and cope up with situations that might require a change in patient's behavior. Group counseling will also allow patients to practice new behaviors in a safe environment and a supportive environmen (Earley, 1999) t. Moreover, the group will promote projective identification which is required in a process of evolution and change. The role of peers is unparalleled; it cannot be completed by the role of a counselor in the context of a relationship between individuals (Waska, 2003).

Interpretation of the Dreams: Dream is one of the shortest routes to the subconscious as revealed by the Freud. Therefore, I will try my best to work with the content of the dreams and will try to find out that how they influence the stressors.

Analysis of resistance: The purpose of this technique is to help patients to understand which psychological defense mechanisms is a hindrance to real understanding of patient's problems and that these mechanisms are in this situation where the safety function is no longer needed.

Interpretation: This method aims to clarify counselee to find out the hidden reasons for patients' feelings and behavior. I believe that his should be done very carefully by the psychologist. I will interpret the emotions of the patients in a ...
