Introduction

Smallpox is one of man's oldest illness enemies with a history that goes behind thousands of years. At one time or another it has impinged on reasonably every corner of the planet. It is an acute transmissible illness that is incurable to as many as one-third to one-half of its victims. In 1796 Edward Jenner showed that an illness caused by cowpox secure against smallpox and an very productive vaccination against smallpox was developed.

 

Epidemiology
