Introduction

The rate of teen suicide in adolescent males has tripled between 1960 and 1980. Suicide rates for teen females have increased between two to three fold. There have been striking increases in suicidal behaviors among African American males, Native American males and children under 14. Thousands of teenagers commit suicide only in United States alone. In 1997, more adolescents died from suicide than AIDS, cancer, heart disease, birth defects and lung disease. Suicide claims more adolescents than any disease or natural cause. Last year one my friends attempted to commit suicide. His family problem was the main reason for suicide. Their parents often fight in front of their children. They never take care of their children appropriately. (Aarons 22) So my friend was basically sick of his life and daily fights of his parents. So he decided to commit suicide, but fortunately his other friends including me made him realized the suicide is not the solution of your problem, in fact it will create more problems for your family. This paper discusses “Teen Suicide” with an emphasis on its social causes.

Discussion

Suicides amid young people worldwide have increased considerably in past some years. Thousands of teenagers commit suicide only in USA alone. Till late nineties suicide in USA was the third most important reason of death of teen age. It was also the sixth principal cause of death for 5-to-14-year-olds. A lot has already been done in this regards paying attention to the subject of teenage suicide. Suicide among a nation's youth is reflective of the circumstances in which the youth is vulnerable to self-destructive emotions. More than 30,000 people in USA commit suicide each year, and 5,000 out of these are teenagers. There has to be a cause for this action and it is found that one out of every eight teenagers experience depression, which is not noticed and depressive symptoms are often incorrectly described. The behavioral outline will have to be established in the conditions of suicide victims, anxiety, uncertainty, the stress to achieve something, and financial insecurity is normal emotions that many teens feel. More teenagers and young adults have died of suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, chronic lung disease, pneumonia and influenza combined.Suicide is the eighth leading cause of death for all persons regardless of age, sex or race; the third leading cause of death for young people aged 15 to 24; and the fourth leading cause of death for persons between the ages of 10 and 14.

Thesis Statement

Teenagers with depression are at high risk for suicide and suicide attempts.

Body

Approximately 14% of teenagers with depression attempt suicide. While teenage girls attempt suicide almost twice as often as teenage boys, boys are more likely to complete suicide. It is important that any threats of suicide be taken seriously.
