Introduction

The topic for social studies lesson which got chosen is “What is the role of the United States in the world today?” It is an engrossing topic, and it is essential for the youth to know the role of United States of America in today's world. It will open the minds of students, as they will do the critical thinking and analyses on the role of United States of America during the class activities. The various components such as learning outcomes, effective text presentation with illustrations and pictures, lesson summary, instruction to the teachers, glossary and innovative student evaluation tools and techniques be incorporated in this lesson of Social Studies.

The topic “What is the role of the United States in the world today?” is a universal element for learning. This topic should be taught in such a way that students should get an opportunity to learn and think as, well. This topic has boundless imagination, and a lot to discuss in different aspect, that it will make the student an independent thinker who are capable of analyzing and solving complex problems.

The main objective of this social studies topic is to analyze lesson formats of existing grade textbook from critical thinking perspectives (Karten, 2010). The study got based on questions such as, is the lesson format of Social Studies child friendly? What should be the lesson format of Social Studies from critical thinking perspectives? These are the factors which should be kept in mind while planning a lesson for the class, as it is important to engage the students for opening their minds and thinking.

The Teaching Methods And Strategies

The social studies topic, which has been chosen is a qualitative study. It needs a lot of discussions and focus groups to be done, in order to understand the real role of the United States of America in today's world. The focus group discussion be done by dividing the class into three groups. Then reach group be given the topic related to the main topic, and inter group discussion will be held. This will engage students in class, and it will open the minds of these students as, well (Carrasquillo, 2002). They will also be asked to critically analyze the role of United States of America in today's world, so that the picture of both sides is clear in the class. Apart from these focus group discussions, few articles on the same topic be distributed in the class, and after going through these articles, critical analyses be done.
