Standardized Tests

Literature Review

A standardized test is a test that has been standardized or Normalized, meaning that it has been tested in a population with normal distribution for the feature to study, either the IQ, the glucose in the blood, knowledge of history, etc. as a standardized test is a tool used by various areas of study, including some belonging for example to health sciences. (Popham, 1999)

In the process of standardization defines the rules for application and interpretation of results, so that the implementation of a test should be done under certain conditions, which must satisfy both those who apply, and those who apply to them. This standardization seeks to make the results useful for decision-making, if you perform a test to decide whether a person is or is not accepted in a particular discipline, the test should ensure the best possible, that those who accept the requirements and fill reject those who truly do not.

For a test applicable at the population level must meet certain requirements:

Validity: A test is valid when it measures what we want to measure, a test of knowledge, for example, to discern, with a small margin of error, among those who know and those without.

Reliability: When applied repeatedly, the test reproduces similar results. Involved in this, the instrument applied (a unit of blood tests, a questionnaire, a psychological test, etc.); it should produce similar results when applied in the same individuals under the same conditions, the observer to manage it. (Maxey, 2004)

Accuracy: The result is the closest to real value. If a person is 80 mg / dL of glucose in blood, we hope that the test values very close to this value. It would be unacceptable to report 50 mg / dL or 105 mg / dL. Accuracy refers to the fineness of the instrument, and a timer will be more accurate than a wristwatch. In other words the accuracy is a measure of the quality of calibration of the instrument for internationally accepted measurement standards. This includes the sensitivity and specificity.

The publications reconsider disclosed that standardized tests can become a problem. These tests are incapable to identify informative difficulty or work out what scholars have learned. According to reviews high-stakes checking sways the curriculum being educated in schools. It sways how educators educate their scholars, and generally sways how much significant discovering takes location in classroom. (Gullickson, 2002)

Studies have shown that it is a widespread beginning that what is educated in a school room and what is checked is the identical thing. Unfortunately, what scholars are checked on, don't habitually agree up with the instructional content of the curriculum and objectives of the classroom. (Ormord) This is what is renowned as “testing-teaching matches”. The investigator discovered that as numerous as 50 % of the pieces on a standardized accomplishment check may cover topics that scholars wouldn't in the school room in a granted locality. (Popham)

The observational meetings disclosed that the aim on multiple alternative format can restrict educating and discovering to ...
