State-Societal Relations in Syria

Introduction

Any region or country cannot develop progress or work in conformity unless; a consensus exists between the public and government. The route to development and growth rests with happiness and loyalty of the public that it shares for the country. If a state takes reasonable care of its inhabitants and not only provides them with the basic necessities of life, but also ensures the establishment of justices and fair distribution of resources; then the public would itself be devoted to giving their expected return to the state, in terms of production, loyalty and sincerity. However, if the state is negligent with respect to the rights of citizens, or takes undue advantage of the authority given to them, then it acts as a demoralizing and agitating factor for the people.

The history of the world is full of examples where the constant negligence and suppression by the state eventually fired back at them, as the public decided to fight for the attainment of their rights and liberty, and prevent the government from abusing the resources which belong to the public. These struggles took various forms. Such as revolt, civil war, rebellion and much more; and eventually either the public would be subdued or the government will be overthrown; however, neither of this can be attained without the bloodshed and loos if life.

The Composition of Syrian Society

The society or public of Syria is an amalgamation of various ethic and religious groups that eventually form the total population of the region. If we talk about ethnicity, the 90% of Syrian population comprises of the Arabs, Armenians and Kurds; however, the rest 10 % comprises of other small ethnic groups. It is just not the ethnicity; the population of Syria can be further divided with respect to the religions owned by the pubic. The Muslims are almost 90% of total population with 74% of them being Sunni and 16% other Muslim groups. The other 10% of the population consists of Christians and small groups of Jews.

The people of Syria speak the Arab language; it also is the official language of Syria. The Muslim Syrian population also comprises of the Palestinians and Iraqi refugees besides the inhabitants. Where as, other languages like the Kurdish, Armenian and Turkic are prevalent in small towns amongst the small groups of Muslim population.

However, there are different religious and ethic groups in Syria, yet the public tolerates and endures the religious difference. Since, the majority of religious and ethic groups comprise of Muslims; hence, an understood conformity exists in the society. The other small ethnic and religious groups are distant and freely practice their culture and religion. Since, Syria has a Muslim government and the majority population, there fore, it is known as a Muslim state in the world.
