Study skills are applied approaches to learning. They are usually critical for success in school, college and university, and are considered essential to acquire good grades. They are very useful for learning throughout life.

There are a variety of study techniques which improve the process of organizing and absorption of new information, withholding of information, and facing the evaluations.

Although often left to the student, study skills are increasingly essential in high school and university. A series of books and websites are available to provide information on the subject. The works of Tony Buzans provide specific techniques on mental maps, and general guidelines for the success of their studies (Blerkom, 2008).

More generally, any skill that increases a person's ability to study and pass exams can be called an ability to study, and this could include time management techniques and motivation.

Study Skills are discrete techniques that can be learned, usually in a short time, and applies to all or most fields of study. Therefore they should be distinguished from the strategies that are specific to a particular field of study such as music or technology, and inherent skills to students, such as aspects of intelligence or learning style.

The potential benefits that the children acquire in developing strong study skills are so great and shocking that we adults would do well to give greater priority to this area of ??training (Wong, 2008).
