Introduction:

A number of socially and morally unacceptable phenomenon are fast gaining pace these days, suicide being one of them. It is not common to hear or read about suicide cases on a daily basis, as the number as increasing with each passing day. There could be several reasons behind the act: personal issues, financial issues, family problems, education issues and so on. Every individual has his own particular problems and thus a distinct reason to end his life: commit suicide.

There is no dearth of individuals who believe that suicide should be legalized, as they believe it is every individual's right to end his life in the way he want to. Euthanasia and Physician Assisted Suicide (PAS) are among some of the most widely debated and argued upon topics, which are also legalized in some parts of the world.

Moral implications of topic:

Increasing suicide rates and media coverage is further aggravating the issue, as more and more people are now reverting to it as a means to end all the obscurities and tribulations of life. Instead of finding solution to one's problems, a number of people switch to suicide to get done with their intricacies and complexities.

To get a clear idea of the topic, let's have a look at some of the recent reported cases of suicides:

Don Cornelius, 'Soul Train' Creator, reportedly committed suicide on Wednesday, 1st Feb 2012 (The New York Times). Although the friends and relatives of the TV star say that his suicide came as a surprise, a close look at past events of his life say it all. Cornelius got divorced from his second wife and was charged and arrested for spousal battery. During the trial, he also stated having some serious health issues as well.

15 year old Staten Island girl commits suicide after jumping in front of a city bus (The New York Times). The girl's uncle reported that she was being bullied by her class mates at school, and the continuous harassment forced her into the deadly action of ending her life by jumping in front of the bus.

Jamey Rodemeyer, a Buffalo junior high school student commits suicide after being bullied at school. His suicide draws attention towards the gay bullying issue as he made a video a few days before his suicide that 'urged other gay students to remain hopeful'. In the video, he mentions how he tried finding a partner but got rejection and ridicule from all sides, thus forcing him to take this extreme action. Although he didn't leave any explanation for his suicide, his parents believe that the video is a clear message from him. (The New York Times)

Murdered of a seven year old girl commits suicide in prison. According to the reports, a residence maintenance person physically abused and then murdered a seven year old girl and then killed himself as well in prison. The prisoner was already sentenced to death two days before he committed suicide. (USNEWS)
