Introduction

There are laws, which play a pivotal role, in maintaining the appropriate and sound atmosphere of the society, with respect to rights of different entities and groups of the society, and to uphold and preserve the order on the land. Every region or county of the world encompasses of such a body that ensures the preservation of rights and appropriate implementation of the law. This ruling body is famously known as Supreme Court, and it has considerable significance in the policies of the country.

The Evolution of Supreme Court

The Supreme Court over the years has under gone numerous changes and evolution. The history of Supreme Court denotes the growth of our economy, the changes and amendments of the political opinions over years and most importantly the development of the federal structure of USA. In the early earlier of its inception, the court did not have much business in most spheres of society.

It was John Marshal, the chief justice of Supreme Court, who is believed to have strengthened the position of the highest court and earned the federalist status. He was the first person to enact the principle of judicial review.

During the tenure of Taney, the successor of Marshall, the court once again the court acknowledged via the police power, the declaration of state regulatory authority. However, Taney and Supreme Court were defamed when he forbade congress from abolishing slavery from several states. Another low point occurred when President Lincoln disregarded the Taney's challenge in regard to suspend habeas corpus.

Another era, which denotes rising of Supreme Court, was from the civil war to 1937. In late 19th century, the state law enforcing body did not regard the right of liberty and property and intervened without the appropriate body. However, later in years, the issues such as working hours for women and freedom to speech were addressed (Rehnquist, 2002).

The third prosperous period embarked when congress passed the milestone of economic legislation during the period of President Roosevelt. Rooosevlet also brought further reforms in the configuration of the court, and moreover, the Supreme Court enabled the enactment of Social Security Act and Labor Relation Act. In the 50s, the court was more involved with the rights of individuals, freedom of speech and liberty issues. Moreover, the questioning practices of congress and other sedition laws were brought under meticulous observation, as well.
