Within the overall planning process for the teaching session, you will have defined the objectives of the session, the learning outcomes or objectives, and possibly the assessment (see Module Setting educational goals "for more details on these aspects).

Hill suggests that teachers should start with an understanding of where the student is in terms of their learning level they have achieved, past experience and understanding of training needs and goals (2007).

At the beginning of the session, they must be explained to the students or trainees to establish a context for learning. As mentioned earlier, one of the responsibilities of teachers to help align announced official results of the study to the educational needs of the individual student. So how do we do this in busy clinical session, where we could participate in the training of various groups of students or interns?

Training needs assessment can be done relatively informally at the beginning of training session simply by asking students what they would like or what they expect to receive from the teaching session. Creating this routine part of every training session helps to avoid those situations where the teacher gamely plodding, no matter what, though students are clearly disengaged with the process.

The first step is to establish good relationships with pupils, so that you can work together to achieve what should be a common goal. If you plan your teaching session thoughtfully and students know about the program, students' needs and plans for education must be well aligned and will not need more than minor adjustments. Sometimes, though, and students' needs are somewhat different or in addition to the stated learning outcomes, it is important to teach the session in accordance with the general curriculum or schedule.
