Although innovation has long been recognized as important, some have argued that it has taken on an increased importance in the current economy. Prior studies had often singled out individual area such as organization theory, marketing strategy management and information systems with little cross-fertilization.

CHAPTER NO 1: INTRODUCTION

Introduction

Organizational culture can be defined as a set of customs, traditions and values. Identify an organization, be it business or institution. Although the importance of sustaining innovation to achieve business success has been repeatedly recognized, there is a lack of research regarding the relationship between organizational practices and sustained innovation (Luo, 2005, pp. 177). As business leaders and learning/talent management leaders work to align their efforts to drive business performance, understanding this relationship has become crucial.

Background

Many manifestations associated innovation successfully applied to a certain organizational culture that makes it possible. This culture is often linked to participation and commitment; both personal behavioural characteristics are considered as the basis of ability to innovate.(Glisson, 2002, p. 767). Innovation can provide an organization with the ability to continuously be creating new revenue sources and plan for their future growth. This is crucial for businesses to gain an advantage over their competition. Innovation is also central to economic growth and company success. Although innovation has long been recognized as important, some have argued that it has taken on an increased importance in the current economy. In this economy, linking innovation and growth will be important because organizations cannot afford to innovate without it leading to business value.

Significance of the study

Innovation has been considered as the key factor for all firms to survive and grow. Many studies have discussed the process of innovation, particularly in the past two decades. Many linkages have been found between organizational innovation capability and the two factors, innovation drivers and organizational culture had not been investigated empirically. Prior studies had often singled out individual area such as organization theory, marketing strategy management and information systems with little cross-fertilization.
