COPING WITH CHANCES IN THE COMMUNICATIVE BEHAVIOURS OF PEOPLE WITH PROFOUND AND COMPLEX DISABILITIES

Introduction

A person with a disability has a more limited capacity for learning. His understanding grows so offset relative to the average person. This is known as mental retardation. This translates into a slower pace of adjustment and difficulty in coping with the demands of everyday life. Behaviour disorders are very common in people with autism. For parents and others, is often the major issue ahead of the social or communicative deficits, for example. The intervention is difficult because it is based on learning, which is made complicated by the presence of some severe disorders of communication. The management of these disorders is very specific.

A behavioural disorder can be defined as conduct that creates a nuisance to the person and / or his entourage. We are used to group behavioural disorders as they relate to:

? own the physical integrity of the person (self-injury, stereotypes)

? Physical integrity of others (aggression, seeking close physical contact)

? objects (destruction, improper use)

? Social integration of the person (cleanliness, theft)

Intellectual disability was a consequence primarily social, commonly known as mental handicap. Intellectual disability is a condition, and should not be confused with mental illness, which has its own consequences (Albrecht, Walker and Levy, 2002, 1319-27). Intellectual disability cannot be cured, but the general functioning of a person who has mental retardation can be improved if the person receives adequate support and operates in a supportive environment. Its capacity will grow better if placed in an environment rich in stimulation, as can be now (Asch, 2004, 529-36).

It is important that before any intervention, to identify the origin of the unrest. Behavioural disorders are not specific to autism. They are present in other pathologies.

They are classified into three categories:

? Disorders directly related to autism (stereotypical, narrow interests)

? Disorders arising from autism (anxiety disorders, communication) are the most frequent

? independent disorders (denial of food, destroying objects)

The high frequency of behavioural disturbances in autism can be explained by several factors:

For people with autism, the environment can be very difficult to understand and unpredictable. This results in them an important sense of anxiety, which can cause inappropriate behaviour. The lack of communication skills, including deficits in verbal comprehension and expression, prevents people from expressing discomfort, pain, desire or need, and can also lead to inappropriate reactions (Emry and Wiseman, 1987, 7-27).

Discussion

It is very important to clearly identify the contingencies of the disorder and its function in order to understand the triggering mechanism, the reason for its longevity and suggest what appropriate behaviour instead. Sometimes the only response available to people with disabilities is incorrect behaviour. The intervention will allow the person to have other means, adapted this time to express what she previously expressed by inappropriate behaviour (Ware, ...
