Introduction

The paper aims to research Active Directory to discuss a design for a Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure based upon the requirements of a particular scenario. The scenario involves a company, called Techo Designs, which sells electronic equipment online and has two offices, one in Southampton and the other about 20 miles away in Portsmouth. The paper aims to present a diagram of solution as the Active Directory structure of the company.

Part 1: Structure of the CompanyA Company called Techo Designs, which sells electronic equipment online, has two offices, one in Southampton and the other about 20 miles away in Portsmouth. The company has 8 departments as follows: Sales, Marketing, Design, Information Technology (IT), Accounts, Corporate Management, Human Resources and Distribution. Southampton is the head office where 50 Sales staff are located, 40 Marketing staff, 20 Design staff, 30 IT staff, 36 Accounts staff, 30 Corporate Management staff, and 20 Human Resources staff. Portsmouth is a distribution center where a further 30 Sales staff, 10 Marketing staff, 6 Corporate Management staff, and 50 Distribution staff are accommodated. The Corporate Management staff includes a Managing Director at the head of the company, supported by a board of 6 directors and various secretaries, all based in the Southampton office. Each department has a departmental manager in charge of that department, and each departmental manager has an assistant. There is a network administrator within the IT department. The two sites work closely together and the staff at the two offices shares resources on the network, such as databases, printers, etc., for example members of the Sales department at both offices share the same database. The files to be shared on the network will be of sales, marketing, corporate management and distribution department only as there is no IT, accounts, design and HR department in the Portsmouth's distribution center.
