Analysis of Social Program in the US

Abstract

The research paper will present statistical analysis of a US social Program. The chosen program is the Public Housing Assistance Program managed by the HAs (Housing Agencies). The data is analyzed using graphs (liner relationships) between the dependent variable and the independent variables.

Analysis of Social Program in the US

Introduction

The research study will highlight a social program in the US (The Public Housing Assistance Program). The dependent variable will be analyzed in the research paper, which is crucial for the success of this program.

Social Program Details

The Public Housing Assistance Program (HUD) was drafted to provide safe rental and decent housing schemes to citizens with low incomes. The program consists of housing in all types and sizes. These houses include small single family houses to apartments tailored for elders. After its initiation, more than 1.2 million people were allocated in public houses, by the end of 2009. These houses are being managed by around 3,330 HAs (housing authorities) (Scire, 2009).

Eligibility Criteria

Public Housing includes individuals and low income families. The following criteria for providing housing benefits are determined by the HA (Housing Agency).

Annual Gross Income - A person can qualify as an elderly, a family, eligible immigration status, a US citizen, or as a Disable person, qualification is based on income level of the person. If the HA authorities found the applicant eligible for the program, they will check the references for ensuring that they are not only responsible but eligible people. Any person, whose actions or habits are found to be detrimental and irresponsible, will be denied the admission by the Housing Agency (Carter, 2012).

The Key Dependent Variable

The dependent variable (left-hand side) is the factor, which is determined by the performance of multiple independent variables (right-hand side of an equation). The Public Housing Schemes, managed by the Housing Agency, is supported through financial assistance by the Capital Fund Program. The activities which are supported by these funds include development and modernization of public housing management and capital activities. The capital fund also supports financing activities, such as public-housing development, which also includes customary financing costs and payments of debt service (COR, 2008).

According to congress-women Bordallo, “These funds will help modernize and upgrade GHURA housing inventory on Guam. The grant highlights the federal government's continued support for public housing programs, and it will help improve the services and facilities that GHURA provides. I look forward to these funds benefiting our island community” (General Accounting Office, 2008, pp. 2)

The success of this program is totally dependent on federal funding through the Capital Fund Program. The availability of funds is dependent of the economic situation and fiscal capacity. Therefore, these funds are the dependent variable for the study.
