Human Right

The basic right every individual has, being a human being, which can be neither created nor destroyed by the government of any state refers to as human rights. These rights have a concern with matters such as, freedom of life, privacy, freedom of thoughts and expressions and so forth (Nina & Whalen, 1998).

Two Basic Human Rights

The two most important, basic human rights include the Human Rights Act for Privacy and the Human Rights Act for Family.

Human Rights Act for Privacy

This implies that individuals within the society are free to live their private lives without any undue interference of the state or government. They are free to make their own decisions and choices, as long as they do not pose a threat to the interest of fellow members of the society.

Human Rights Act for Family

This tight allows the people in a society to be independent in affairs relating to their families. Some important aspects of the family rights include the choice of marriage and divorce, parent and child relationship, children care and child custody.

Rules

Rules are needed in the society to ensure that people can live safely and in harmony (Hellriegel & Slocum, 2007). Rules ensure that individuals in a society abide by its norms and cultures, and keep a check on the conduct and behaviours of the people to maintain peace and order, and set punishments for those looking to disrupt it.

Laws

Laws are legal rules that are enforced upon a society by the state or other authorities. These apply to all the members of a society and imply unconditional adherence. For instance, an individual steals the goods belonging to some other member of the society. Although this is an individual act of the person who commits the theft, it has negative consequences for the other individual who is deprived of his belongings (Nina & Whalen, 1998). Under these circumstances, a law is needed to define what actions translate into theft, how it constitutes a crime, and the rights and liabilities of the accused and accusers in respect of the charges. The laws are formulated by a legislative body after taking into accounts the various aspects of a typical situation, while its implementation is carried out through the executive institutions of the state.

Main Role and Responsibilities

School Council Representative

A school council representative is a member of the school council whose primary responsibility is to advocate on behalf of the students and acts as a medium of exchange between the students, and teachers and the principal. They act as the voice of students, expressing their ideas, interests, complaints, concerns, suggestions and opinions to the teachers.

Local Councillor

A local councillor is an elected representative of a community or an area in a democratic setup. Their primary responsibilities are to safeguard the interests of their individual community members, and address their concerns and complain, as well as, ensure good governance and management.
