Risks in Aviation Maintenance Industry

Introduction

During the day, it has been observed that there is an increasing change in the trends that the aviation industries are following. In order to manage a number of different organizational systems, it is necessary for the aviation industries to adopt effective integrated approaches. One of the most efficient and result-oriented techniques is found to be the integration of safety along with quality and viable risk management systems. A number of different benefits and threats are associated with it however, the aviation industry of United Kingdom has demonstrated that there are way more benefits than limitations and threats.

It has been observed that the Safety Management System (SMS), which is termed as stand-alone is actually the management system in which the limitations, threats and errors are overlooked efficiently. There can be a number of different errors in the management of the aviation industry. They can occur in the cockpit, in the shop floor, in the workshop or even in the boardroom. The errors that are ignored and considered to be minor are actually the ones that together make up a big incident or accident.

This paper aims to demonstrate the risks and threats that are associated to the aviation industry and using the viable techniques and standards the solutions to mitigate those risks are also proposed.

Involvement and Commitment of Senior Management

This is the foremost and the most crucial step without which the implementation of an effective safety management system cannot be possible. It is significant to involve the entire staff including the manager and their subordinates so as to ensure that the entire crew has been taken on board. Here, it is important for the senior management to show some kind of responsibility towards the implementation process regardless of the magnitude of the implementation, intricacy of the process and type of operation. Some of the key responsibilities are discussed in the following lines.

It is important that the senior management demonstrates commitment to the entire processes of safety management and risk mitigation.

Prior to the implementation process, the senior management must set the standard principles and objectives related to the safety management.

They should work for promoting a sense of ownership and encouragement among the staff members about the safety project.

Allocation of sufficient and productive resources must also be done in order to avoid any sort of hassle at the implementation end.

The information related to the safety management processes that are needed by the aviation engineers should be given to them without any sort of operational delay.

It may not be wrong to say that one of the most important resources that is needed for the entire implementation operation of the safety management system is the presence of expertise. If the aviation industry has personnel that are dedicated and self-motivated then it they are already there for the attainment of their goal of having an effective safety management system.
