Introduction

Considering the amount of competition we have in almost every industry, the need to cater customer needs and focus on customer's preferences is increasing all the time. If we look at the background of marketing and the customer preferences research, we will come to know that every other organization is doing it right now for a reason. Earlier in 1950's the famous approach adopted by business was production approach, where the emphasis was only on the production of the goods and services and how easily and effectively they can be produced. This approach was not considerate towards customer's demand. Later in 1960's the product approach came into being, which was more focused on the product and its quality only, and cared less about the needs of the customers. After this, came the selling approach. According to this approach, selling and pitching the product to the customers was more important rather than merely fulfilling the customer needs and wants. After all these approaches, came the final marketing approach, which gives the holistic benefits to the customers as it takes into account everything , and most importantly, customer's demands.

In order to fulfill and cater customer's demands, we should first devise a mechanism to know what they actually are looking for. In order to do that, business or market research is done in order to get the customer insights about a particular product or brand. In this paper, we will be discussing about the research that we conducted for Australia's Pop a lot. The details about the survey and its implications are discussed later in this paper with details.

Discussion

When we talk about market or business research, there are certain factors which need to be considered before going on for it. The basic purpose of market research is to get the insights from the market and present them in a way that it gives the management a meaningful data to base their decisions on. When we talk about market research, there are many ways of doing it but primarily it can be divided into two categories, primary research and secondary research. Primary research is done where the data is not available readily and needs to be gathered. Whereas in secondary research, the data which has already been gathered before is used to make decisions on it. In this paper, we will be using the primary research as a method for gathering data. However, even in primary research, there are a lot of methods which can be adopted by the people doing it. Primary research can be done through public polls, interviews, questionnaires, and general surveys etc. The method we used in this survey was of a questionnaire in order to get the customer insights about the Pop a lot in Australia. The questionnaires are attached in the appendix.
