Amazon is one of the biggest organisations in the world of e-commerce. Amazon was launched as an e-commerce website in 1995. It offers the customers a virtual experience of shopping with high quality customer services and values. Amazon is considered as a technology leader of e-commerce because of its innovative services of personalized shopping, easy to use searching, browsing, and one click ordering

Products

It is the retailer of several products that include books, videos and music DVDs, and games. It plans to offer a wider range of products in future (Schafer et al., 2001).

Services

Amazon provides a variety of services including web based books, calendar, reminder, and virtual database technology. It is merged with few organisations such as; PlanetAll the Sage Enterprises, Inc., the Junglee Corp. that allows the customer to access products sold by other merchants. This feature help expanding the market and Amazon plans to continue relationship with this kind of service providers (Schafer et al., 2001).

Geographical Expansion

Amazon is continuously expanding its business. It acquired three companies in UK and Germany. These companies launched their businesses under the brand name of Amazon to access the potential customer.

The business functions and operations are quite simple, the customer enters the website can search for books, games etc, order the products, register for some personalized services, check order status and bucket as well as review posts. The Amazon's business functions consists of the key components including Browsing Searching, Review and content, Personalization and recommendations, Secure Payment with Credit Card, Availability and fulfilment, 1-Click technology, and Return Policy (Amazon, 2000).
