Introduction

This paper intends to discuss the challenges in cross cultural communication. Counselors face a lot of significant issues while dealing with specific ethical challenges. The basic challenges counselors face are in relation with the communication patterns. We live in a society where people belong to different communities and have come to live here from different regions of the world. Their communication patterns and understanding of body language and gestures differs completely. Challenges in cross cultural communication are extremely important to focus and dealt with extreme care. Different articles in relation with the topic of challenges in cross cultural communication will be analyzed in order to make the paper more clear and effective. In my opinion, counselors need to focus more over the underlying differences within the cross cultural communication in order to properly respect the cultural diversity and also to exceed the clients' expectations. The purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about the significance of challenges counselors face within the domain of cross cultural communication. The paper will provide useful insights about the challenges of cross cultural communication especially within the field of counseling.

Challenges in Cross Cultural Communication for Counselors

Communication is assumed to be one of the most important aspects of properly and effectively dealing with people. There are various communication requirements within the field of counseling in order to make sure that the needs of clients are understood properly and the treatment is planned accordingly. Effective communication has several challenges. One of the most important challenges faced within the communication is cross cultural diversity. Effective communication is related with the clear interpretation of the communication with the patient. Clear understanding of that client actually needs is most important. This understanding can only be gain when counselors are properly trained to face the challenge of cross cultural communication. When the client belongs to different culture and speaks a completely different language, it makes the situation for counselors the most difficult. The interpretation must be done properly with an effective conversation between the counselors and the clients. Further, it is important for both; the client and the counselor to understand each other's language to fulfill the goals of counseling properly. The health status and expectations are needed to be shared through meeting the challenges of cross cultural communication (Ishu & Marvin, 1992).

Translation of what the client is saying if he or she speaks a different language or belongs to different culture is important. However, it is also challenging in various circumstances like prenatal counseling. This is difficult because of the lack of time for making decisions and for carrying out without any corresponding tests and related processes. Various prenatal procedures are meant to be done at specific time. If the patients cannot explain their situation and conditions clearly to the counselor, it becomes extremely difficult for them to take decisions in relation with the treatment plans.
