Introduction

The theorists and researchers claimed that the world has moved to the most modern and civilized age. In general, the mankind wants to live in peace and harmony but it is not possible that all the citizens of any state lives peacefully without any police or regulators. The mankind always needs rules, regulations, regulators and effective regulatory authorities to compel the mankind to live peacefully. Therefore, different countries have developed different frameworks for implementing rite of government or state. The United Kingdom has a well defined structure to implement its laws which includes police and courts. There are two different types of courts in the United Kingdom such as magistrate and crown courts. The main purpose of these courts is to eliminate or reduce the crimes. The police is assigned to directly deal with these citizens with the purpose of reducing crimes and in case of any bad event there are supposed to arrest the criminals and offenders (Gilchrist & Blissett, 2002, pp. 350). The research showed that the crime rate is directly related to the poverty. Therefore, there are fair chances that most of the criminals belong to the poor areas. The police is only supposed to arrest and investigate the criminals and present the criminals before court. The courts are supposed to hear the criminals and grieved parties to arrive at a decision. The functions of each type of courts are different from each other where there are few similarities among different functions. The research has shown that the court plays an important role in maintain the law and order situation in the country. The role of courts is more important than the police because the court has right to sentence the criminals. As there are two types of courts so the structure of both court must be very effective to make full use of resources (magistrate court and crown court) (Lewis, Taylor & Ball, 2011, pp. 13).

The report will cover two types of courts of United Kingdom which are magistrate court and crown court. The report will basically provide a comparison of magistrate court and crown court. In order to conduct the comparison between these two types of courts, the report will highlight the similarities and differences among these types of courts.

Magistrate Court

The magistrate Court is derived from the magistrate act of 1980. According to the United Kingdom law the magistrate acts means “An Act to consolidate certain enactments relating to the jurisdiction of, and the practice and procedure before, magistrates' courts and the functions of justices' clerks, and to matters connected therewith, with amendments to give effect to recommendations of the Law Commission” (Raine, Dunstan & Mackie 2003, pp. 185).
