Introduction

Florida is the state in the southeast United States with its capital in Tallahassee. Hillsborough is one of the famous counties of Florida. It is located on the eponymous long peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean .Florida shares borders with the states of Alabama and Georgia. Florida is different variegated racial and linguistic composition of the population. The U.S. invasion ended with the mass deportation of mixed Hispanic population and replacing it with a typical U.S. model. Prior to the mass migration of blacks to the north and south polar, the percentage of blacks in the state reached 50%. Then gradually, the proportion of white reached 80% by the beginning of the 60s. Since the late 60s of the XX century, it has been a tendency to reduce the proportion of white. British population and the increase in the proportion of Hispanics and blacks at the expense of higher natural growth and the intense immigration.

Diabetes

Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the Florida, and T1DM is one of the most common chronic diseases in youth, affecting approximately 1 out of 500 youth. The complexity of daily care for youth with T1DM presents ongoing challenges and adaptations for families, varying with the developmental level of the child. Although T1DM can occur at any age, the incidence increases with age, peaking at puberty. For youth diagnosed when they are under 10 years old, most diabetes is T1DM, regardless of race or ethnicity. In youth 10 to 19 years, T1DM is the major type of diabetes in non-Hispanic whites (85%), with a smaller proportion noted in minority populations: 53.9% in Hispanics, 42.2% in African Americans, 30.3% in Asian/Pacific Islanders, and 13.8% of American Indians.

Evidence-Based Family-Focused Interventions

Family management for pediatric Type 1 diabetes management is an all-encompassing responsibility and involves complex, technological care. Along with the challenges posed at differing developmental levels of children, families are ever evolving in their adaptation to care for their children.

Family-focused studies demonstrate the importance of developmentally appropriate family engagement in diabetes management for optimizing glucose control, ultimately averting acute and chronic complications in youth with diabetes. Family interventions that include greater parental involvement and sharing of responsibilities, improved communication, and conflict resolution through problem-solving approaches result in improved glucose control and no adverse effects on quality of life. For adolescents who have a high risk for poor diabetes management, behavioral family system therapy specific to diabetes management assists in realistic goal setting with behavioral contracting, along with psychoeducational counseling to reveal improvements in self-management, lower family conflict, and better glycemic control.

Evidence-based family-focused interventions provide valuable knowledge for initial and continuing health care services for families of youth with T1DM.
