Introduction

The paper aims to provide an overview of the various crime analysis techniques i.e. SARA Model, the Kansas City Patrol Study along with Broken Windows. Moreover, the benefits of crime analysis techniques for the Police department are also discussed in the paper. Furthermore, this paper reveals that the crime analysis improve the efficiency of a department. Analysis of criminal investigations is an investigative tool designed to assist the law enforcement community to solve violent crimes (Haley et al., 2004). The analysis is based on the examination of evidence collected from crime scenes and from witnesses and victims. It is based on the principles of survey and behavioral sciences and to determine the characteristics and personality traits of an unknown offender and outline strategies for investigation, interrogation and trial of latter. Police institutions of the United States have been striving to deploy at least the most basic processes of Criminal Analysis. As the nature of the objects with which to work, the crime analysis is now an important tool in the management of public security investigative function. However, there are many U.S. police agencies that have been structured to use these basic forms (Bichler & Gaines, 2005).

There was an increase in levels of crime and violence in United States in the first half of the past decade, coinciding with a period of poor economic performance in the country. Experts suggest that security problems can be both a cause and an effect of the economic difficulties. The government responded with a plan to address the problem of crime, it fosters a better environment for private investment and optimum conditions for citizen participation in community and civic life. The challenges were many: schools, health institutions and social welfare were not properly equipped to deal with violence. Poor coordination, irresponsibility, outdated training and low morale were revealed in government institutions.
