Subject: Designing Pages

Introduction

The purpose of this memorandum is to critically analyze three pages comprising of different articles of unknown authors. This memo will critique the selected text (see Appendix A) in context of contribution made by visual features in revealing the content. Visual features that are mostly employed include white spacing and chunks, paginations, head system, bullets, rules and header. However, the key of all features is white space. On the other hands, visual features are of no importance if there is no text to highlight. Text features are main source for transferring the meaning. Font, column, length of lines, font size, leading and justification are the features employed to convey meanings of text features. Text features are used to stress or highlight any specific point in content. However, developer should also prepare a style sheet. Style sheet is referred as template, which contain list of specification of every element of the document. For instance, line treatment, margin, spacing, footers and headers etc. In simple word style sheet explains what visual and text features are important in constructing effective visuals that will clearly convey the meaning of content.

First Page

The first page is consisting of only one article, which is attributed to no one. The first article discusses the visually attracted Iris pseudacorus. Analysis of the first article gives fair idea that there is nothing visually sound in the article presented in the first page. This is claimed because of the error made by the author in the first two words "Pseudacorusgrows". The author forgets to leave a space between the words. However, the rest of the article seems adequate to be measured as good article and convey the complete meaning. It is observed from the analysis that the writer is intended to introduce the audience to this beautiful flower, while stressing on the point of its growth and how damaged has caused to the flower. Conclusively, it can be said that the article fails to convey its complete message because it last sentence was incomplete, which make the reading worthless and less visually sound article with incomplete message is of no value.

Second Page

The second page also contains only one article, "What Are OSHA's Requirements for a Hazardous Energy Control?" The article is complete and can be termed visually sound, because it has a proper title with first letter of each word is capitalized as per English Grammar rule. The first main heading is bold italic, while the rest of two are just italic. This systematic visual presentation of the text with generous white spacing reveals that the text is written with full compliance of the principles of effective visual representation to convey the meaning of the text (Riordan and Pauley, 2004).

Third Page

The third page presents an article with no attribution to any author. The text is poorly managed and formatted, thus fails to demonstrate any effective following of visual and text ...
