Ecological Footprints

Introduction

Calculate of Ecological Footprint

At present almost human beings use an equivalent of 1.5 planets to present the resources we use and absorb our waste, which means that it now will take a year and six months to reproduce the amount we utilize in one year. Analysts say that if the same trend of consumption continues, then by the 2030s we will be required with 2 earths to support our consumptions. We are turning resources into wastes faster than they take to regenerate into resources, thus this puts us into global ecological overshoot, reducing the resources the human kind or other species depend. Ecological Footprint information shows us that in present population and present land area, an Ecological Footprint of below 1.8 global hectares for each person causes a country's requirements worldwide replicable. The UN's HDI (Human Development Index) - works to calculate country wise average achievements in the development of standard living, health and knowledge, highlights that HDI higher than 0.8 mean “high human development” (Garlin, 2010).

The total of my personal ecological footprint is of 251.05, in which the global consumption category includes:

Carbon foot print: 78.11Food foot print: 76.46Housing Foot print: 36.62Goods and services foot print: 59.86

Sum of above figures makes it 251. 05. Now my foot print share by BIOME is as under:

Crop land foot print: 30.46Pastureland foot print: 69.25 Forestland footprint: 101.12Marine fisheries foot print: 50.23

Total of the BIOME makes it 251.05 as well. And the country's average is of 246.41. On an average if everyone on this planet has the same ecological foot print as mine then approximately 6.47 earths would be required to support everyone living on this planet.

Discussion

Manipulating Ecological Footprint

According to the analysts the idea foot print for Earth's means is 0.8, which means if every human achieves the foot print of 0.8 they are leaving space for all the other living species to live on the planet as well.

In order to reduce my foot prints from 6.47 to 0.8, I need to make major changes in my life and daily consumption and usage of energy. These energy could be in the form of using cleaner transportation like walking, traveling on bike rather than four wheeler, maintain my vehicle regularly by on time service and by avoiding short trips and travelling to the destination on trains, busses or instead. Moreover I can also add energy saving features to my home ...
