Introduction

This exegesis paper is based upon a passage from the New Testament 1 Jhon 1: 5-10. The analysis of the passage incorporates the Greek tools such as the grammatical features word studies and syntax in the paper. The 1 Jhon 1 : 5- 10 passage is one of the most widely debated and focused passages of the New Testaments due to the authenticity of the passage and the verses involved in it. The authenticity of the passage is widely known for over a century's time period. The passage of the New Testament 1 Jhon 1 : 5- 10 taken for the analysis is provided as follows.

“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth; but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. “ (1 Jhon 1 : 5- 10 )

This passage can be divided into three parts based upon the usefulness of the passage and the lesson incorporated in it. The verse 5 of the 1 john 1 is considered to be the foundation of the passage which determines that God is light. The verses from 6 to 7 determines the application of the previous part which reminds that walk in the light. The verses from 8 to 10 provides clarification of the basis of the passage that there should be no claims for having a personality without a sin. This paper provides an exegetical commentary on the 1 Jhon 1 : 5- 10 passage of the New Testament. It discusses the historical context and the cultural context of the passage with respect to the New Testament and the biblical commentaries provided in different biblical works. The analysis of the text and the interpretation of the text is provided along with the application of the passage 1 Jhon 1 : 5- 10.

The 1 Jhon 1 testaments are believed to be written by the apostle Jhon.
