Head Injuries in College Athletics

Abstract

Head injuries in college athletics could be disastrous, but the outcomes of frequent head injuries are supposed to be taken into consideration as well. Traumatic brain injury can be divided into closed damage which is not violated the integrity of the integument and the dura mater and open, which breaks the integrity of the skull bones. Traumatic brain injuries can be when engaging in sports like boxing, football, and hockey, cycling - and motor sports, gymnastics, diving, at least - athletics, acrobatics, etc. With any head injury observed response of the brain damage and brain matter from the minor (with concussion) to severe, severe crush injury of the brain (with bruises brain), with the development of hemorrhage hematoma (epi-and subdural).

Head Injuries in College Athletics

Introduction

The closed head injury includes concussion, bruises and compression of the brain. Concussions of the brain are the most mild traumatic brain injury. The most characteristic for a concussion is a short-term (a few minutes), disturbance of consciousness occurring after trauma. It is expressed in, or complete loss of, or some confusion, rolling often sleepy. Often there is vomiting or nausea, retrograde amnesia, loss of memory of the circumstances of injury and the events preceding the injury (Bailes & Cantu, 2001).

Even without this fracture, there are still some other things to watch out for. The first of these is called Concussion. This is the result of a shock of the brain and may cause a slight headache, ranging up to the loss of consciousness, through the loss of memory, confusion, disorientation and aggressive behavior also temporary. As it is known, just all part of a normal day for some, so maybe one should say that a person is looking for unusual behavior for that particular individual (Bailes & Cantu, 2001).

Concussion usually rights itself, given time. What is important is that the individual is the rest of the day as a day of rest. If an individual is in the middle of a game, the team just has to go on without them. If the team wins, it is because of their incredible leadership from the sidelines. If they lose, this shows how the team is incomplete without their heroic leader. The risk of further injury must be removed, because the effects of concussion may be cumulative, and lead to more serious damage (Harmon et al, 2013).

For the next 24 or 48 hours, it is important to continue to look for any changes. If you are the coach, or first responder team, make sure the parents or spouses are aware of what to look for. Why is it so important? Why bribery can sometimes be the precursor of something more serious, that is, compression.

Preliminary Literature Search

For this prior study, head injuries are supposed to be as independent variable while the college athletes are considered as dependent variables. It has been noted that compression occurs when there is a pressure on the brain. This could be caused by a fractured skull, in which the ...
