Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to act as a supervisor for work of other staff and define my role as a supervisor. This paper defines the role of supervisor by using the communication systems that help in supporting individuals and key people, and develops the communication methods and skills that help in promoting effective practice. The area of practice is Glasgow city council social work department.

Define own role and function in taking some supervisory responsibility for work of other staff within a defined structure

Following is my role as a supervisor in taking the supervisory responsibility for work of other staff within a defined structure.

•Fully support supervisors at facilitating development.

•Adequately trained to work with employees in emotional distress.

•Recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness in the workplace and find solutions that maintain productivity.

•Being aware of my own reactions to emotional behaviour (crying, anger, frustration and silence). Thus, I can respond more effectively during periods of stress (Avolio, 2007, p. 33).

•Involved from the beginning to create strategies for facilities that address the realities of the work environment and group dynamics.

•Well supervised when facing stressful situations. Many assistance programs (EAP) provide such support on the phone. If your organization also provides support through the Human Resources, a health agency at work or through mentoring, ensure that supervisors are aware of support services and access it.

•Discussing the plan back to work with the employees before returning o work. This discussion will focus on ways to implement this plan.

•Manages the daily schedule of my team: organization and division of labour.

•Ensures quality of work of team members.

•Ensures the motivation of employees.

•Participates in recruitment and career management.

•Organization of training.

•Communicates quantitative and qualitative results of his team to his superior.

Communication Systems to Support Individuals

In order to develop and support individuals and key people, different communication systems have been used. Good communication should be governed by the coherence between the message types and levels of communication: the congruence between the verbal and nonverbal communication, clarity of content and structures the relationship. In any case absolutely clear communication is impossible to achieve by their nature complex and incomplete, it is very difficult to achieve total mutual understanding. The obstacles and difficulties in communication are multiple and of a different nature (Avolio, 2007, p. 33). The idea of an absolute identification between "What is said" and "what is captured" is not possible. A good supervisor help should be able to develop their capacity observation of the phenomena involved in the process of communication, both in his person and staff. You have to be attentive to the reproduction of garbled or jumbled forms in messages verbal and nonverbal. These systems include:
