Industrial Revolution

Introduction

The Industrial Revolution began in England in the mid-eighteenth century and in the following century spread in other European countries and the United States of America. It was called "revolution" which was responsible for the radical change in the ways and conditions of production of manufactured goods and in all areas of economic and social life. It boosted the economy and the lives of British citizens and later the entire continent. It was the biggest change in the production of goods since 1800 in England. The rise of machinery and instruments which used natural energy rather than human effort was the dividing line between the two forms of production. Use of Machines created the environment for mass productions which indicated modernism and the end of old regime. The Revolution began with the mechanization of the textile industries and the development of processes of iron. The expansion of trade was facilitated by improved transport routes and later by the birth of the railroad. The most important innovations were the steam, a powerful machine which revolutionized the whole process of production and manufacturing of goods. These new machines favored enormous increases in production capacity. The production and development of new models of machinery in the first two decades of the nineteenth century facilitated the manufacture in other industries and also increased production.

International trade transformed Britain as the richest nation in Europe. The prosperity of Britishers was also expressed culturally. The process of revolution was amplified by the application of scientific discoveries in the production system. Machine tools were built for the textile industry, which allowed the mechanization of spinning. The technique was perfected for the use of steam as a motive power. The new technology, which used coal, was decisive in the development of the steel industry. Subsequently the steam engines were used to construct the first means of locomotion and with the construction of railways they were able to transport goods to further destinations of the world. This major change in transportation had an immediate impact not only on marketing processes, but also in the quality of life which allowed quick and easy movement of people from far away.

Discussion

The first industrial revolution was the one which began under British momentum during the second half of the eighteenth century, and in which coal, steam powered machines, railways and industrial textiles played an essential role. The second industrial revolution began in the early twentieth century, which relied on oil, the automotive industry, aerospace, industrial chemistry and industrial appliances. The third industrial revolution (the so-called intelligence revolution) is the one which began in the 1950s with the first steps in the field of computer science and microelectronics which was the changing point for the developing world (Stalcup, Pp N.A).
