Outsourcing in Information Systems Projects

Abstract

The topic was related with the Information Systems used by the organisations. The main focus was on the option used by the organisations in outsourcing the Information Systems. This leads to certain benefits for them and also improves their operational capabilities. The wide range of aspects were analysed in detail that explored the dimensions of outsourcing. Therefore, these were all the issues related to Information Systems that were discussed in detail.

Outsourcing in Information Systems Projects

Introduction

The offshore outsourcing of information systems is defined as assigning external sources to provide human, physical, or technological requirements of an organisation. This provision of services may include Information technology infrastructure, which is the result of an agreement signed between the companies. The agreement might contain provisions of managerial responsibilities along with information system services (Clark et al., 1995, p. 223). Outsourcing was introduced in the last decade of the twentieth century, but acquiring the services of external computer experts in not a new phenomenon.

Some outsourcing strategies were employed even in the 1960s, but the nature of the work has changed. In the past, only small firms resorted to outsourcing in order to develop the products or services which was not internally attainable, but now, even the largest firms with experienced information system department resort to outsourcing. Moreover, this phenomenon was only limited to non-information departments in the past, whereas, nowadays information systems plays a pivotal role in information sectors, and also in the competitiveness of the firms (Lonsdale and Cox, 2000, 450).

Information System Outsourcing Strategies and Risks

Outsourcing as is known to some, say that we are in the era of outsourcing, which has experienced significant growth in present times (King, 2001, p. 15). According to recommended measured predictions of some analysts to understand the market related to computers; this improvement seems to be achieved in the near future at least. It should be noted that services are dispersed according to location. ASPs are Developing (Smith, 2002, p. 451), which include business process outsourcing, including guidance for business combinations, opportunity to browse and outsourcing support. Application Service Providers (ASPs) are third party service provider that are responsible for deployment and managing remote host software applications that are to be used in services related to renting or lease. A new concept, by the name of Business process Outsourcing combines information systems to consulting or supporting business tasks (Otim et al, 2012, 194).

Application of Information System

An understanding of the degree to which technology adoption behavioral beliefs, and particularly system trust beliefs, affect user resistance towards information systems implementation is necessary before effective information systems strategies can be created to bolster user trust in reducing implementation failure rates and increasing the likelihood of successful information systems adoptions. Trust in information technology artefacts and in the supporting organization has been shown to be positively related to intentions to use technology.
