Manage Accountability

Introduction

United States supply chain depends on the raw materials & finished goods movements from vendors to wholesaler/retailer and then to the final consumers. These movements of products usually take place through commercial vehicles, 160, 000 miles of the national highway system. National Highway System accounts for 4% nationals roads in US but contains 75% commercial vehicle movements. Hence, when more workers drive their own cars during the work week, this increases the traffic congestion. Hence, the amount that Department of Transportation has received should be utilized in such a way that it will enhance and expand an interstate freeway. This paper will focuses on the creating an analysis of management accountability and cost benefit analysis for the interstate freeway over a 5-year period.

Discussion

As we know that there are 30 Interstate Highways in New York that further splits into eight main routes and 22 auxiliary routes. Due to narrowness of the road, citizen usually faces problems and probability of accidents increased because of over-crowding (ww.csir.co.za).

As state Department of Transportation (DOT) has received $100 million in federal funding to enhance and expand an interstate freeway over a 5-year period. This amount would be better to use for expanding the existing interstate freeway and constructing separate highway for heavy trucks and buses. The management accountability and cost benefit analysis has been prepared for interstate freeway on main New York City.

The amount for expansion and new construction has been equally divided i.e. 50 million for expansion and 50 million for new construction (easonmclucus.tripod.com).

Expenses incurred for construction new interstate freeway

The costs that will be incurred for the construction of new interstate freeway will be materials stone, mineral binders and organic materials. In addition, this construction involves the use of still, slag, ash and local soil, which improves additives binders. It must be remembered that the cost of materials for the construction of roads is about 70% of the total cost of all the construction. Materials for the construction of roads vary in mechanical, physical and chemical properties; it depends on the suitability of a particular material for construction. For Interstate Highways in New York the suitable materials properties for construction of roads and repair depend on the durability of the pavement and the parameters of density, medium density, water absorption, porosity and frost has been considered will selecting them (Neil N., 2002).

Cost of new interstate freeway

Hence, as the cost of this construction would 70% of the total cost, the amount of expense would be as followed:

Cost of Labor

4.75

Material

14

Still

4.5

Slay

14.5

ash and local soil

12.25

These are used for preparation of different layers namely, Granular base, Bituminous base, Cemented-subbase, Cemented-subbase, Concrete pavement and Cemented base.

For the purpose of expanding the Interstate Highways the following expenditure will be incurred:

Cost of Labor

10.75

Material

14

Still

4.5

Slay

14.5

ash and local soil

6.25

Here, the cost of ash and local soil cost will be lower than in new construction and the cost of labor will increased due to per hour increased for bulldozing and again rebuilding ...
