Thoughts on direct practice and social work leadership

Being socially active is essential for a leader to understand his followers and also to make his followers understand who their leader, as a person is. In fact sociability is an important trait of successful leaders, (Northouse). Social leaders are the one with whom the teammates can get along with. Such leaders have great interpersonal skills and are able to create cooperative relationships. Being social may be difficult for a leader who as a person is not an extrovert.

My thoughts on direct practice are that a leader who has the much needed expertise in his field may or may not be able to lead a group. It is essential for a leader to be well aware of his field work, he will be able to lead his team, however, what matters is that how he goes about doing that and even more important is whether he is regarded and accepted as a leader by his team mates.

Thing that scares me the most about leadership is…..

Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal, (Northouse).

Leadership is not as easy as it may look like. Being a leader means that one is responsible not only for his own actions, however also for the actions or the wrong doings of his teammates. It may also seem difficult to get the followers agree on one thing. Some people may not like me personally and may not want to work under me or with me on some project. If the workforce is a cultural blend, then there may raise problems in communicating ideas and getting along may not be that easy. Moreover, at times working with a blended workforce may create a feeling of favoritism among the workers. However, on the other hand all these responsibilities are challenging for me.

I have never thought of myself as a leader because……

I choose to disagree with this, I think of myself as a leader because I have good public speaking skills. I socialize among my class mates. I am a man of integrity as I am honest and trust worthy. I am sensitive to my teammates and fellow mates' needs and have a friendly attitude that makes people around me easy to go by. I believe that we all are born with a trait or ...
