Duty-oriented Reasoning

In my opinion, the duty oriented reasoning would allow to save the most easily reachable and the most accessible person in this scenario. Being a paramedic, I would believe under duty oriented reasoning; I would rather chose to save the scout master mainly because of the fact that he is most easily accessible and reachable and my duty bounds me to save the person who is approachable first. According to duty oriented reasoning, I cannot sacrifice the scout master over all the other boys only because of the numbers. A life is a life; be it only a scout master or the whole group of boys. Being related to paramedics, our first duty is to save the life which is in front of our eyes and we cannot let go that life only on the basis to save a relatively few more lives. In duty oriented reasoning; I cannot just let go the life of scout master for the purpose of saving the life of boys. Being a paramedic, my essential duty is to save the life I first approach and it is impossible under duty oriented reasoning to ignore the life of scout master for the purpose of saving the maximum number of boys beneath him (Vincent et al 2011).

Consequence-oriented Reasoning

Now the consequence oriented reasoning would clearly asks me to save the maximum number of people. Under this approach, I would have to sacrifice the life of scout master and let him go in order to save the maximum number of lives of boys under the cave. If only the scout master is saved; the consequence would be the loss of maximum or several lives. The consequence oriented reasoning would ask me to try to save the maximum lives in order to minimize the consequences. The scout master would have to be sacrificed for the purpose of minimizing the consequences of the event through saving the maximum number of boys. The consequence orients reasoning of ethics is generally used to minimize the consequences of a particular event. In my opinion, the consequences will be minimized when the maximum numbers of lives are saved. Being related to the field of paramedics, the consequences oriented reasoning remains quite difficult to implement because ignoring or sacrificing a life is not an easy thing to do while the intention is to save the maximum number of lives (Beebe & Myers, 2009).

Virtue-ethics Reasoning

Virtue ethics reasoning would ask me save both the scout master and the boys. Cutting the cave in a manner that can help save the life of scout master and the boys beneath would be the most ethical decision under the virtue ethics reasoning. Despite the fact that all possible escape routes have been checked out; under the virtue ethics reasoning the most appropriate would be to look for some method which would help save the lives of both the scout master and the boys.
