Leadership

During the early 20th centuries, growth in interest regarding exploration of the concepts, theories and types of leadership is evident. However, the early theories of leadership failed to offer any substantial input in the literature, instead they only differentiate between the qualities of leaders and followers. With an increase in interest of exploring the importance of leadership, new theories have considered different variables such as level of skills and situation factor. This in relation to leadership theories will attempt to demonstrate an appreciation of leadership theory, and how the principles of leadership are applied and developed, outside my organisation. Moreover, the paper will also reflect on the learning that has taken place throughout the process. In relation to answer all of the mentioned question, I have conducted the interview of a colleague, who worked for a Primary Care Trust (PCT) at a band six levels, to broaden my understanding regarding the concept of leadership in healthcare settings.

The PCT worker holds a key position in the organization with great skills of leadership. Finding ways and raising awareness of responding to avoid consequential crises on a daily basis has to be tackled as dealing with complexity and unexpected event has become leadership and management challenge (Taleb, 2008).

Despite the fact that I have been allocated a different style of leadership to study, the interviewee provided information that in different scenarios she had to assume different roles. First of all, I have inquired the interviewee if she believes that leadership is a science that can be learned or is a gift from God. The response of the answer shows that respondent believe that some qualities or traits are transferred by genes, however it is important to learn more about leadership in order to understand the concepts beyond some certain limits. With special reference to the importance of healthcare settings, she believe that in a healthcare setting the more a person gain experience the more he or she will be able to take tough decisions (Winkler, 2010). In this context, it can be said that, she is of the view that leadership skills though sometimes are innate, but this varies from field to field. In healthcare settings, it is more valuable to make an informed decision than decisions based on what a leader believe is right.

The interviewee than asked if the environment of the office and work impacted upon the leadership style, she claim that yes it ...
