Introduction

This paper will focus on the leadership style and philosophy of Larry Page, CEO of Google. This paper will include how the Larry Page's leadership style aligns with the culture of Google. The personal and organizational values of Larry Page are included in this paper. Moreover, how the values are likely to influence the ethical behavior within Google is included along with strengths and weaknesses of Larry Page are also discussed.

Background of the CEO

The CEO of Google, Larry Page born on March 26th, 1973 is an American computer scientist and internet entrepreneur. Larry Page started Google as a co-founder along with Sergey Brin in 1998. Larry Page ran Google as co-president with Brin until 2011, when both of them hired Schmidt as CEO and Chairman of Google. Larry Page became the Chief Executive Officer of Google on April 4th, 2011 while Schmidt stepped down to become executive chairman of Google. Larry Page is ranked on number 13 on the Forbes 400 list of the 400 richest Americans with his wealth estimated to be US$23 billion (Forbes, 2013).

Leadership Style and Philosophy of Larry Page

As chief executive officer of Google, Larry page is responsible for carrying out Google's day to day operations along with the product and technology development of the company. The leadership style and philosophy of Larry Page is to take the Google nimbler, more appealing and more adaptive to creative engineers working at Google with breakthrough ideas. The leadership style of Larry Page is introvert as Google has proactive employees and introverts have recently been shown as the best leaders for proactive employees. Being introvert, Larry Page is good at listening and not much interested in directing social situations. Larry Page is more likely than extroverts to implement and hear the creative ideas of other people (Goudreau, 2012).

Introvert leaders typically are reserved, they think before they speak and are most likely to spend time alone. Being an introvert, Larry Page tends to excel at one on one interaction and is deliberate decision making. The philosophy of Larry Page is to persuade top level executives to join and sitting working together every day in public area of Google headquarters in Mountain View. The culture of Google is greatly reflected by the leadership style of Larry Page as, he encourages employees to take risks and make decisions in a team. Leadership of Larry Page is based on leading the company on consensus of employees. His leadership style does not reflect making decisions at the top level and then implemented from top down.
